Academy Movement Program

Academy Movement supports schools to run in‑timetable sport academies that keep students connected to learning through sport, teamwork, and personal growth.

Program provider: Academy Movement

Academy Movement partners with secondary schools to design and establish sustainable long-term, curriculum aligned sport academies that improve student engagement, behaviour and pathways through an education first approach.

Program description

This program helps schools set up and run a sport academy that is built into the school timetable and curriculum. It is designed to be sustainable over the long term.

Academy Movement supports schools to create a dedicated Academy class at each year level, such as:

  • Year 9 Rugby Academy
  • Year 10 Rugby Academy
  • Year 11 Rugby Academy
  • Year 12 Rugby Academy

Each Academy class runs like a normal subject in the school timetable. Students take part in both practical sessions and classroom learning connected to their sport.

Students not only improve physical skills but mental health too as part of the program. Students also learn about career pathways and can work towards accreditations that support employment or further study after graduation.

The program suits students who enjoy sport and being part of a team, including students who may find traditional learning harder. It uses sport to help students stay connected to school and community.

Students earn and keep their place in the Academy by following a clear code of conduct. They receive ongoing support to build positive habits, take responsibility, and improve behaviour over time.

Students enjoy this program because the content is connected to something they love.
