Implementation considerations

  • Target population: School staff, to enable them to support students.
  • Program adaptability: The program is tailored to ensure that the local context and need is taken into account in the delivery of service. The program can be adapted for diverse cohorts including:
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
    • asylum seeker and refugee students
    • culturally and linguistically diverse students
    • LGBTIQA+ students
    • out-of-home care students.
  • Staffing: While the program can be delivered flexibly, backfill will be required to support teacher time for professional learning, consultation and reflective practice. The Menu provider and its personnel must not be alone with any school student or group of school students in the classroom or in any other place at the school’s premises without another educator, teacher or teacher’s aide present at all times.
  • Professional learning requirements: There are no training requirements from schools prior to implementation of the program.
  • Factors to consider: While the program is intended to be delivered face-to-face, professional learning or other support elements can be provided online if requested, in which case schools will require access to necessary technology. A minimum of 2 staff are required to establish a School Implementation Team, with a minimum of 10 staff participating in Trauma Informed Training. Ongoing support is an integral part of the model, with the program designed to support the embedding of trauma approaches and practice across time. There is flexibility with regards to the utilisation and timing of this service.
