Blue Light Victoria delivers early intervention and prevention programs for young people aged 10-21. Their programs help young people develop the skills they need to navigate challenges and engage at school.
Working with schools and local communities, their programs uniquely embed police and emergency services as trusted partners and promote positive relationships.
Program description
Blue EDGE (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) is a program that supports students at-risk of becoming disconnected from school to reconnect.
The program uses fitness and physical activity to engage students and build skills that support their wellbeing. Sessions are led by Blue Light Victoria facilitators and delivered in partnership with policy and emergency services – who actively participate alongside as community role models. This helps to build trust, strengthen connection and support individual and collective resilience.
Small groups of students in Years 7 to 9 take part in two-hour sessions over 8 weeks. Each session includes:
- team-based fitness and physical activities
- a shared meal to build connection, and
- short workshops on skills such as emotional regulation, communication, teamwork, safe decision-making, resilience and wellbeing.
At the end of the program, students take part in a graduation and reflective learning session. This helps to reward participation and reinforce school connection.
