Using the power of football (soccer), CITC works with young people and schools to deliver programs that create healthy people, healthy communities and healthy futures. Sessions in the classroom and on the pitch focus on leadership, respect and teamwork, with potential pathways to further education and employment.
Melbourne City FC delivers community programs through its charitable arm, City in The Community (CiTC).
Program description
The City Futures Program is an in-school program run by City in the Community (CITC).
Run during school hours, it supports student engagement, wellbeing and personal development through a mix of football, mentoring and classroom learning.
This program is delivered at school and includes:
- Weekly football sessions
- Classroom workshops on leadership, respect goal setting and positive choices
- Activities that build teamwork, communication and discipline
- Mentoring and relationship-building with Melbourne City coaches
- Reflection activities that help students apply what they learn to school and everyday life
This program help students build confidence, resilience and stronger relationships with others. It also gives students the chance to connect with positive role models and learn about pathways in education, sport and work.
The program is delivered by graduates of CITC’s Young Leaders program, who share their own experiences and act as positive role models.
Schools may also choose add-on activities, such as:
- Visits to the City Football Academy
- A tournament with other participating schools
