Melbourne City FC delivers community programs through its charitable arm, City in The Community (CiTC). Using the power of football (soccer), CITC works with young people and schools to deliver programs that create healthy people, healthy communities and healthy futures.

Sessions in the classroom and on the pitch focus on leadership, respect and teamwork, with potential pathways to further education and employment.

Program description

Delivered by Melbourne City FC’s City in the Community (CITC), the City Young Leaders Program is a 2-day, school-based program designed to build leadership, teamwork and connection through football.

Run during school hours, the program combines classroom learning and on-field activities to support personal development, respectful relationships and student engagement.

What’s included:

  • Classroom workshops on leadership, respect, teamwork and communication
  • Inclusive football sessions with adaptable games and activities
  • Activities focused on teamwork, communication and personal development
  • Information on further education pathways, including the Diploma of Sport and Business
  • Guest interactions with A-League Men’s, Women’s and Powerchair representatives (where available)
  • Tickets to A-League matches and giveaways

  • School staff are available to assist with scheduling, supervision, facilitation, and student support.
  • Schools provide suitable indoor and/or outdoor spaces (e.g. classrooms, halls, or sports fields).
  • CITC supplies specialised equipment.
  • Schools nominate suitable students and inform the provider of any support needs or other considerations.
  • Schools support student and teacher feedback collection to help monitor participation and outcomes.
  • Certificates of completion may be awarded to students, with school support where possible.
  • Activities may be adjusted to suit available space, student needs, or unexpected changes.
