Disability Standards for Education eLearning courses

These eLearning courses help schools understand and meet their legal obligations to students with disability.

The eLearning courses also support schools’ understanding of the model applied to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability policy.

What the eLearning courses are about

The eLearning courses help schools understand and meet their legal obligations under:

The Disability Discrimination Act is Australian legislation. It protects people with disability from discrimination in public life. This includes in education.

The Disability Standards for Education clarify this law. They set out the rights of students with disability and the legal obligations of education providers, including schools.

The Disability Standards for Education seek to ensure that students with disability can take part in education on the same basis as students without disability.

All education providers must meet the Disability Standards for Education. This includes:

  • kindergartens
  • schools – government, independent and Catholic
  • TAFEs
  • universities.
