Implementation considerations

  • Target population: The program is designed for students in years 5–8, teachers, parents and carers.
  • Program adaptability: Body Safety Australia can work in consultation with schools to adapt this program for the specific needs of rural and regional students and students from diverse cohorts. The program can be adapted for diverse cohorts including:
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
    • culturally and linguistically diverse students
    • students with a disability.
  • Staffing: Backfilling may be required to cover staff in professional development or parent workshop activities. Backfilling will not be required for student programs. The Menu provider and its personnel must not be alone with any school student or group of school students in the classroom or in any other place at the school’s premises without another educator, teacher or teacher’s aide present at all times.
  • Training requirements: The staff professional development session will require basic audio-visual infrastructure such as a TV, projector, or smart screen. The student program session will require access to a TV, computer, or other device.
  • Factors to consider: Training consists of 3 to 5 x one-hour sessions for students with optional additions of teacher and parent/carer workshops. Schools are asked to deliver pre-program surveys to students participating in the program. There is a minimum of 5 participants and maximum of 30 participants per student group. Implementation support is provided prior to and throughout the duration of program delivery. Post-program follow up may include longitudinal survey. The total program usually spans over 3 to 5 weeks.
