Shooters Shoot delivers structured wellbeing programs that combine self-reflection and basketball. Our programs help students build confidence, resilience, emotional awareness and positive peer relationships.

Program description

Shooters Shoot delivers an on-site, term-based basketball program. The program combines basketball, journaling and wellbeing activities to support student engagement.

In this program, students build their skills on the basketball court by taking part in drills, teamwork games, and scrimmage-style play.

After time on the court, students have time to journal and reflect, focusing on:

  • identity
  • goals
  • emotions
  • coping tools
  • peer relationships

Students work with mentors who are culturally responsive and positive role models with lived experience. These mentors are able to build trust, consistency, and a create safe space for participation.

Provider notes and assumptions

This program requires:

  • Access to an indoor and/or outdoor basketball court
  • Access to one or two classrooms
  • One or two school staff members available to answer questions
  • Additional pens
  • A small spare room
  • Media consent from parents and/or guardians
  • School access to space and basic amenities (water, toilets)
  • The program provides basketballs, cones, bibs, portable equipment, and journals/printed prompts
