Program provider: L2R Dance
L2R Dance is Australia’s only not-for-profit organisation focused on hip hop and street dance for young people.
They provide free dance programs, leadership opportunities and pathways to employment. Since 2009, we have used dance to support young people’s wellbeing, physical health and confidence.
Their focus on hip hop and street dance gives young people a creative space where they can express themselves, build skills and explore important social and cultural issues.
Their vision is a more inclusive world where everyone can benefit from access to the arts.
Program description
Dance Break is a hip-hop dance program run by L2R.
It can be delivered as:
- a one-off workshop
- a series of workshops that build towards performance.
Each workshop includes:
- a warmup and check-in
- dance skills practice
- learning a hip-hop routine
- a cool down and check-out.
Students learn hip-hop styles such as Popping, Locking, Breaking and Litefeet. In the longer program, students build their skills over time and work towards a shared performance.
The program uses dance to support wellbeing, confidence and connection. Check-ins and check-outs help students reflect on how they are feeling before and after each session.
L2R delivers the programs using safe and inclusive practices. Workshops are led by culturally diverse artists who reflect the lived experience of many students and communities. This helps students feel seen, supported and welcome.
Dance Break gives students a regular space to express themselves, build friendships and try new skills. It also helps students build routine, confidence and a stronger sense of connection to community.
