Le Mana Pasifika: Tuakana – Teina

Delivered by the Centre for Multicultural Youth, Le Mana Pasifika: Tuakana – Teina is a one-to-one mentoring program that helps Māori and Pasifika students strengthen connection, confidence, and wellbeing through culturally grounded support.

Program provider: Centre for Multicultural Youth

Le Mana Pasifika: Tuakana – Teina is a 1:1 mentoring program for Māori and Pasifika secondary school students who are at high risk of disengagement from education.

This program provides individualised, relationship-based mentoring delivered during school hours in partnership with school wellbeing and engagement teams.

Mentoring is delivered through regular one-to-one sessions over an agreed period and includes:

  • Individual assessment of engagement, wellbeing, and identified risk factors
  • Goal setting for school engagement, attendance, and participation
  • Focus on wellbeing, confidence, and problem-solving
  • Social and emotional skill-building tailored to individual student needs
  • Support to navigate school relationships, expectations, and routines
  • Regular review of progress with the student and relevant school staff

The program uses Māori and Pasifika wellbeing frameworks, including Te Whare Tapa Whā and Fonofale.

This ensures mentoring considers emotional, social, cultural, and family factors while remaining structured and goal-focused.
