Program provider: Western Bulldogs Community Foundation
The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation uses sport to bring people together and create positive change in the community.
Their programs aim to build healthy, connected, safe and inclusive communities. We work with a wide range of young people, including newly arrived migrants, First Nations young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people experiencing physical or mental health challenges.
Their programs are delivered in several languages, including Hindi and Vietnamese, and support healthy living, mental wellbeing and reduce social isolation.
Program description
Leaders of the Pack focuses on identity and community mapping, leadership and also connection and team building.
Through one hour of physical activity followed by one hour of leadership development, young people can explore:
- what’s important to them
- what community and connection mean,
- mental health and gender equity
- to feel empowered through movement and discussion.
Participants will identify a range of strengths and weaknesses within a chosen community. These challenges will then be addressed through creative project ideas that focus on social inclusion.
Using the strength and visibility of the Western Bulldogs brand and the unifying power of sport, the program sparks interest and trust among young people..
Participants can try new activities in a safe and supported environment. Facilitated group discussions encourage students to reflect on their strengths, explore personal challenges, and build self‑belief.
Participants are encouraged to connect their learning to their community. This helps them develop a stronger sense of belonging and contribution.
The program inspires young people to envision their futures, embrace their potential, and become confident leaders in their communities.
Intended outcomes
- Stronger connection to community and local supports (17)
