Melissa Elphinstone (presenting course): Together, I think we're really proud that we've made this collaboration between both schools.

Justyn Koh: We both agreed that there was a mutual need in the space of behaviour but also helping some of our staff better understand evidence-based practises to support neurodiverse students.

Melissa Elphinstone: Not every child or student learns the same. That's where they gotta really be educated and this course is a perfect stepping stone for that.

Justyn Koh: We ran Supporting Students with Autism course here at Kings Park and then Melissa at Movelle is running Supporting Student Behaviour course.

Melissa Elphinstone: It gives teachers, ES and a whole school the same training –along the same page using the same language.

Anthony Douglas: I can work with the leadership team, I can work with any of the educational support staff or any of the other teachers if I'm stuck with something and we all know what we're doing so we can work together.

Justyn Koh: Mel and I had the opportunity to sit down beforehand to discuss the unique needs of our settings and I think the staff respond really well in that they go ‘OK’ this is relevant to me immediately.

Melissa Elphinstone: Something happens, we can actually bring up - what do you think that the function is? Let's take some data, let's draw back on the course that we've just been learning for eight weeks. So it's that real bringing together a whole school community, learning at the same time.

Justyn Koh: One of the great things about the partnership is that Mel and I had the opportunity to sit down beforehand to discuss the unique needs of our settings and I think the staff respond really well in that they go OK this is relevant to me immediately.

Melissa Elphinstone (presenting course): Shazza might say - what do you know about one student? And you might be able to collaborate with your knowledge. So I think that's really powerful.

Ian Gaffiero: You could bounce ideas off each other and so many different strategies. It's not just you who's got this problem, it's every single teacher out there.

Justyn Koh: It's important for staff to feel like they are not alone, to hear that those stories are sort of a common thread throughout other schools – it’s a huge relief.

Ian Gaffiero: You can see students that you work with two years ago that were low level and they've come up so much because of their well-being being met, they’re being listened to more, so they’re understood, so they’ve thought OK I need some help with this and they’re asking now.

Melissa Elphinstone: We need to keep equipping ourselves with new knowledge on how to cater to these students.

Justyn Koh: It’s a little bit like a snowball - once it starts working it gains traction and it builds and builds and builds.

Melissa Elphinstone: You know I can see teachers starting to really understand their students and build that relationship and also with each other. That's what I love with this facilitating course.
