SHINE, STRENGTH and JET

SHINE, STRENGTH and JET are mentoring programs supporting school engagement, confidence, emotional regulation and goal setting through structured activities that strengthen identity, relationships and positive decision making.

Program provider: 1000 Generations

1000 Generations is a community-led organisation delivering early intervention and prevention programs for young people across primary and secondary schools.

Their work focuses on building self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and positive decision-making. Their programs are supported through lived-experience mentorship and strong community partnerships.

They provide safe, supportive environments where young people can develop life skills, strengthen connections to education and community, and access positive pathways into their future.

Program description

The SHINE, STRENGTH and JET programs are mentoring programs that help students build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

Students take part in weekly mentoring sessions in a small group. Each session includes guided discussion, activities and practical exercises that help students build social and emotional skills.

The program focuses on helping students develop stronger decision-making, emotional regulation and positive peer relationships. Students also explore their values, strengths and future goals.

The program is delivered through three streams:

  • SHINE for female-identifying students
  • STRENGTH for male-identifying students
  • JET as a co-educational option

Sessions are interactive and include group discussions, role-play activities, leadership challenges and goal-setting tasks.

The program is designed for students who may be at risk of disengaging from school. Small group delivery and consistent mentoring relationships help students build trust, develop positive coping strategies and feel more connected to school and their community.
