Program provider: 1000 Generations
1000 Generations is a community-led organisation delivering early intervention and prevention programs for young people across primary and secondary schools.
Their work focuses on building self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and positive decision-making. Their programs are supported through lived-experience mentorship and strong community partnerships.
They provide safe, supportive environments where young people can develop life skills, strengthen connections to education and community, and access positive pathways into their future.
Program description
The Table Project uses cooking and shared meals to help students build practical skills, confidence and connection.
Students take part in hands-on cooking sessions where they learn how to plan meals, prepare food and cook together. Each session also includes discussion and reflection during shared meals, helping students build teamwork, communication and respect for others.
The program focuses on practical life skills such as meal planning, budgeting, food safety and nutrition. Students also learn how to reduce food waste and make healthy choices.
Guest mentors from community and industry may join sessions to share their experiences and support students to build confidence and personal responsibility.
Sessions run in small groups to create a safe and supportive environment. Working together to cook and share meals helps students build trust, develop positive relationships and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
The program uses hands-on learning rather than traditional classroom teaching. This helps students stay engaged while developing practical skills they can use at school, at home and in their community.
