Program description

This is an outside school hours football (soccer) program for secondary students.

It helps students build connection, confidence and positive relationships through football, food and group discussion. The program is designed for targeted student groups and can support students who may be at risk of becoming disconnected from school or community.

Each session uses football as a way to build skills and talk about positive behaviours. Sessions include:

  • healthy food
  • talking circles
  • activities that build pro-social skills

Schools can choose the topics that best suit their students. These may include:

  • teamwork
  • communication
  • self-esteem
  • goal setting
  • resilience
  • emotional regulation
  • kindness
  • sportsmanship
  • community connection
  • problem-solving

The program runs over a school term, usually for 4 to 8 sessions. Sessions can be delivered outdoors, or as a mix of outdoor and classroom-based activities.

The program is designed to create a safe, positive and engaging environment at times when some students may be more at risk of antisocial behaviour.
