WorldSkills VET competitions for school students

Each year, VET students from schools across Victoria compete in WorldSkills Australia competitions to demonstrate their capabilities and prove their skills.

WorldSkills is the recognised ‘skills championship’ for school students undertaking VET in schools to compete to be Victoria and Australia’s best.

WorldSkills Australia (WSA) competitions build Victoria’s skills culture, celebrate vocational excellence, and showcase vocational education and training, trades and apprenticeships. This fosters strong career pathways for Victoria’s young people and empowers them to strive for technical mastery in their skill of choice.

The WSA VET program is a series of competitive work-simulated projects for school students completing VET, based on industry-standard frameworks. The projects are designed and administered by practising teachers and industry professionals. The competitions assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability against strict criteria.

The Department of Education is a proud partner in the WorldSkills Regional and National competitions.

WorldSkills competitions cover 18 VET skills on a 2-year cycle, across 6 industries:

  • building and construction technology
  • creative arts and fashion
  • information and communication technology
  • manufacturing and engineering technology
  • social and personal services
  • transport and logistics.

Hosting a competition is a great opportunity to showcase young peoples’ talent and inspire other students.

You can also send one or more students to compete, demonstrate their skills and win WorldSkills glory at the nearest regional competition.
