WorldSkills is the recognised ‘skills championship’ for school students undertaking VET in schools to compete to be Victoria and Australia’s best.
WorldSkills Australia (WSA) competitions build Victoria’s skills culture, celebrate vocational excellence, and showcase vocational education and training, trades and apprenticeships. This fosters strong career pathways for Victoria’s young people and empowers them to strive for technical mastery in their skill of choice.
The WSA VET program is a series of competitive work-simulated projects for school students completing VET, based on industry-standard frameworks. The projects are designed and administered by practising teachers and industry professionals. The competitions assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability against strict criteria.
The Department of Education is a proud partner in the WorldSkills Regional and National competitions.
WorldSkills competitions cover 18 VET skills on a 2-year cycle, across several industries:
- building and construction
- information technology
- manufacturing and engineering
- social and personal services.
Regional competitions and national championships
In 2025, 26 school students undertaking VET have been selected to represent Team Victoria across 13 skills.
After strong competition at the Regional Competitions in 2024, these students have earned the chance to compete for the title of Australia’s best. They will demonstrate their skill at the prestigious WorldSkills National Championships at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in June 2025.
With plenty of pre-training, mentoring, and team spirit, we’re ready to compete and bring home the medals! Go Team Victoria!

If you work at a school, TAFE or RTO, you can celebrate and promote young people’s VET excellence by hosting a regional competition in 2026. Start planning now to schedule competitions into your class program and school’s calendar of events.
Hosting a competition is a great opportunity to showcase young peoples’ talent and inspire other students.
You can also send one or more students to compete, demonstrate their skills and win WorldSkills glory at the nearest regional competition.
