Registrations are open for the Effective Mentoring Program (EMP), which will be running from Term 1 to Term 3, 2023.

The EMP is designed to enhance the mentoring knowledge and skills of experienced teachers so they can support their colleagues, including graduate and returning teachers, to achieve full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), and act as the VIT-trained representative on workplace recommendation panels.

The 2-day program is open to fully registered teachers working in government, Catholic and independent schools and early childhood services. The department delivers this program in partnership with the VIT.

About the Effective Mentoring Program

The program is delivered through 2 separate face-to-face one-day seminars from Term 1 to Term 3, 2023. Participants will receive reading materials to support their learning.

Participants will:

  • develop their mentoring skills to support teaching colleagues, including graduate and returning teachers, in line with the Mentoring Capability Framework
  • qualify to be the VIT-trained mentor on workplace recommendation panels
  • learn about and implement current research and practice in mentoring.

Refresher program

A one-day refresher program is available for teachers who have completed the Effective Mentoring Program within the past 3 years.

Participants will revise and develop their knowledge and skills based on current developments in the EMP.

If you're interested in attending a refresher program, contact the Teacher Professional Practice unit by email: teacher.development@education.vic.gov.au
