Prepare your high-ability students to become empathetic global citizens with Next Stage – where a dynamic learning approach boosts the capacity of students to achieve both in and outside the classroom.

The free, on-demand program from Drama Victoria is offered as part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series, for high-ability students.

The unique program is tailored for students from Prep to Year 12 who have demonstrated exceptional abilities in any of the curriculum areas, from mathematics to the arts.

Next Stage focuses on developing students’ capacity in 9 skills identified as essential for success in the 21st century:

  • collaboration
  • empathy
  • creative thinking
  • communication
  • confidence
  • leadership
  • critical thinking
  • connection
  • global citizenship.

Next Stage makes a dramatic difference

The Next Stage program showcases the power of drama as a teaching tool, with students often becoming so engrossed in the narrative that they only realise what they have learned on reflection.

Next Stage offers a diverse range of activities including incursions, interactive video lessons, lesson plans and worksheets – all created and delivered by a team of expert drama teachers.

The program is available on-demand during the school year as an incursion or virtual workshop, and Drama Victoria will work with schools to schedule activities.

For more information on the workshops and to register, refer to:

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series

The Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series is a key initiative of Victoria’s Student Excellence Program (SEP). It provides enrichment opportunities across the curriculum to engage, challenge and extend high-ability students in Victorian government schools from Prep to Year 12.

Face-to-face and virtual incursions and excursions are on offer. Activities are held in metropolitan and regional areas during school, after school, on weekends and during school holidays.

For all activities, schools and high-ability practice leaders nominate students for participation according to their abilities and interests.

All activities:

  • are free for participating students
  • have a minimum duration of 90 minutes and are conducted in groups
  • are across one or more learning areas of the Victorian curriculum.

To view the schedule of activities and events, refer to Arc event hub.

Please talk to your school’s high-ability practice leader for more information about your school’s nomination process.
