Japanese course offers language and culture refresh

Qualified teachers are invited to enrol in a free new hybrid course to boost your listening and speaking skills.

The Monash Japanese Language Education Centre is offering a new hybrid professional learning course to help teachers of Japanese to refresh and develop their language skills.

The department is funding the 37.5-hour language maintenance course, which will provide all course materials.

About the course

Registrations for the course are open to primary and secondary government school teachers of Japanese.

Concentrating on listening and speaking skills, the face-to-face and online course will focus on historical and contemporary aspects of Japanese culture and language.

The course is suitable for teachers with Japanese language skills equivalent to N4-N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

A small number of places will be available to non-government school teachers of Japanese.

Course dates

Date: Friday 7 July 2023
Time: 9 am to 5 pm
Platform: in-person.

Date: Saturday 8 July 2023
Time: 9 am to 5 pm
Platform: in-person.

Date: every Tuesday from 11 July to 5 September 2023
Time: 4.30 pm to 6 pm
Platform: online.

Date: Saturday 9 September 2023
Time: 9 am to 5 pm
Platform: in-person.

Cost: while the department has funded the course, a $150 registration fee will apply for successful applicants. Talk to your principal about the cost before applying.

The venue for the in-person sessions is: Monash University, 12 Ancora Imparo Way, Monash University, Clayton Campus (Japanese Studies Centre Building 54).

Applications close on Friday 26 May 2023. Applicants will receive notification of the outcome by Friday 2 June 2023.
