The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is establishing a strong regional presence, after launching its regional centre in Moe.

Expanding across the state, the Academy aims to lift the quality of teaching by giving teachers and school leaders across Victoria access to world class professional learning programs.

Moe is the second regional centre launched this year by the Hon. Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Education, after the launch of the Geelong centre in March 2023.

Regional centres in Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton will follow. To enquire about your local Academy centre, refer to the Academy’s website.

Local teachers and school leaders across Gippsland and Latrobe Valley came to see the official Moe centre launch on Thursday 27 April 2023.

Academy regional centre benefits

Academy CEO Dr Marcia Devlin AM said, ‘Opening our new Academy centre in Moe is another exciting step closer to ensuring all teachers and school leaders across Victoria have access to world-class professional learning programs and we look forward to welcoming all local educators to our new facility.’

With its regional centres, the Academy aims to increase equity of access to professional learning to lift the quality of teaching across Victoria. The centres will provide rural and regional school leaders and teachers with a collaborative and supportive environment to develop new skills and educational approaches.

Local teams will support each regional centre and provide regional teachers with the same high-quality professional learning programs as the Academy's centres in East and North Melbourne.

The centres offer a range of learning initiatives, programs, and events dedicated to leadership and teaching excellence.

This includes Teaching Excellence Learning Communities, as part of the Teaching Excellence Program (TEP). The TEP is designed for highly skilled teachers, with applications for TEP 2024 opening in July 2023. Teachers can be nominated or self-nominate. All nominees need principal endorsement.

In Term 3, 2023, Inspire, Literacy and Numeracy Local Leaders programs will also be available in all operational regional centre locations.
