Recognising Victoria’s longest-serving teachers

More than 300 department staff honoured for their outstanding service to education in Victoria.

On Sunday 21 May 2023, the department proudly recognised more than 300 teachers, school staff and department staff for their extraordinary contribution to education, at our Recognition of Service Awards ceremony.

Department Secretary Jenny Atta joined the Hon. Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Education, in congratulating those inspirational educators and staff who have given 40, 45, 50 and 55 years of service to education in Victoria, at The Pullman, in East Melbourne.

In honouring the dedication that our longest-serving educators and staff have shown to supporting Victoria’s schools, students and families, the Secretary highlighted the profound impact they’ve had on the lives of thousands of young Victorians during their careers.

The Secretary said these education professionals have all played an important role in shaping young minds and driving a culture of performance, excellence, and equity.

Among those honoured on the day were 9 staff members who have achieved an astonishing 55 years of service, and we were privileged to learn more about some of our longest-serving educators for the event. We hope you enjoy these videos to get to know:

Among the school communities that must have been brimming with particular post-event pride are these schools, that celebrated multiple Recognition of Service recipients:

  • Ballarat High School, with 2 50-year recipients
  • University High School, with one 40-year recipient and one 50-year recipient
  • Balwyn Primary School, with one 40-year recipient, one 45-year recipient, and one 50-year recipient.
