Places are still available for eligible teachers to undertake a fully funded graduate certificate in digital technologies or design and technologies.

Delivered by Deakin University, the 2-year graduate certificates are aimed at years 7 to 10 teachers who are teaching technologies subjects out-of-field.

The graduate certificates are offered free for participating teachers or schools, and the department will provide additional funding for schools to support participation.

Please share this information with your colleagues and encourage them to apply by visiting Technologies Graduate Certificates. Expressions of interest will remain open until places are filled.

Learn more about the graduate certificates

The graduate certificates are for teachers who have been teaching technologies out-of-field for less than 5 years and will be teaching out-of-field in 2024–25.

Each graduate certificate will commence in February 2024 and run until the end of 2025.

They will be delivered as a blended learning experience consisting of:

  • face-to-face course days (2 days per term)
  • online workshops (3 per semester)
  • assessments applying course learning in the classroom.

Both graduate certificates comprise units (one per semester) focusing on different key content areas. Participants will gain conceptual understanding, pedagogical content knowledge and skills and assessment practices for teaching years 7 to 10 digital technologies or design and technologies.

Graduate certificate credit can be put towards a Master of Education.

Current design and technology teachers who specialise in one technologies context should consider the graduate certificate to broaden their understanding of other technologies contexts.

The course could also support teachers who teach digital technology as part of an integrated subject, such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Before submitting an expression of interest, teachers who are integrating digital technologies should contact the department to discuss their interest in by email: technologies.graduate.certificates@education.vic.gov.au

Participants whose schools are more than 100 kilometres from the face-to-face venues are eligible for reimbursement for travel, meals, and accommodation costs.

Schools will receive funding for each participant through their Student Resource Package, equivalent to 10% of a 2.6 classroom teacher salary (around $13,000 a year). The funding will enable schools to support teacher attendance at face-to-face course days and engage with course requirements.
