On Monday 4 September 2023, we are introducing the Teacher Recruitment Initiative (TRI) to make the process of applying for teaching jobs at Victorian government schools easier, and to reduce the time it takes schools to fill their teaching vacancies.
This will mean a new way to secure a teaching job in Victoria, with teachers and prospective teachers able to register on the Job Opportunities Pool using Recruitment Online (ROL), the department’s careers portal for Victorian government school positions.
Registering under the new initiative will mean applicants will be auto-matched to job opportunities according to their preferences, and won’t have to provide a written response addressing key selection criteria (KSC). The KSC will be used to determine suitability as part of the interview stage.
The TRI will provide up to a 70% reduction in time to the vacancy and shortlisting process.
How the TRI works
Under the TRI, applicants will only need to register as part of the Job Opportunities Pool once, attaching a self-statement or covering letter and a resume, saving time in writing and managing multiple job applications.
Applicants can create a profile with preferences such as:
- desired location/s
- year level
- role type
- teaching subjects
- which schools they would like to be visible to.
When using the TRI, schools only need to list their vacancies for a minimum of 3 days, reduced from 14 days. Recruiters can start shortlisting after the application period is closed.
Listing vacancies for less time and providing more flexibility around applications means schools and recruiters can be more responsive to suitable applicants and fill vacancies more quickly.
The new TRI process will sit alongside the current way of advertising teaching jobs, and so job-hunters in Victoria will have a choice about which system they use to apply. We encourage you to create a profile in the job opportunity pool and search and apply for jobs advertised on Recruitment Online.
Regardless of which system applicants use, all vacancies will be filled in accordance with the department’s selection procedures (merit based), as set out in the Recruitment in Schools policy(opens in a new window).
It’s a match
When matched to vacancies that line up with their preferences, applicants will be notified by email. Applicants can also track applications and withdraw at any time if matched to an unsuitable vacancy.
How to register
