2023 Victorian State School Spectacular open for registrations

Students can gain performing and behind-the-scenes experience, under the guidance of industry experts

Do you have students interested in the performing arts, working in creative industries or who simply love to dance, sing and play music?

If so, registrations are open for the 2023 Victorian State Schools Spectacular, to be held at John Cain Arena on Saturday 9 September 2023.

Students can perform or gain behind-the-scenes experience across all creative disciplines, under the guidance of industry professionals. The program helps develop students' performance skills, perseverance, cooperation and confidence through months of training in a non-competitive environment.

Participating students gain unique experiences and get to perform live in a world-class arena for a television audience.

The 2022 Spectacular was held on Saturday 10 September 2022 and involved more than 200 schools and 3,000 students, who performed live to an audience of more than 9,000 people.

Express your school's interest

Schools can register an expression of interest in the mass choir or dance groups, or nominate a specialty group.

Students can register in several ways:

  • talented musicians, dancers and singers can register to audition for the main vocal, dance and orchestra cast at the department's Performing Arts unit in Collingwood or submit a video audition
  • students who have other specialty skills – such as skaters, acrobats, skippers, cheerleaders or circus performers – can register to audition at the Performing Arts unit or submit a video audition
  • students interested in audio, lighting, film, photography or stage management can register for a structured program of workshops, as well as production week at John Cain Arena.
