Changes to Google education products

School users of Google education products will soon notice changes.

Updates include rebranding G Suite for Education as Google Workspace for Education, and new email privacy settings

G Suite for Education has been rebranded as Google Workspace for Education.

Along with the rebrand, Google Workspace for Education will include new features and enhancements in response to feedback from educators around the world, including:

  • an upgrade to Google Meet, giving educators the ability to mute all and lock audio for participants
  • the ability within Google Forms to save a form as a draft before submitting a final response
  • giving Google Jamboard users access to version history.

All new Google feature releases were announced at a recent Learning with Google webinar.

Privacy for students

We are making changes to the visibility of the Google address book for students at the end of Term 1.

To protect privacy, students will need to enter their teacher or other student's email addresses when they want to share documents, rather than being able to search through the network's address book to share their documents. This will ensure that all students are safe and secure when accessing online tools to support learning in the classroom.

To minimise inconvenience for students, email addresses will pre-populate if they have been used before. Teachers will still be able to view the address book.
