The start of Term 2 is an ideal time for teachers to review the learning progress of their Prep students.
An effective way to do this is by comparing the learning demonstrated by students against their Transition Learning and Development Statement (TLDS).
Completed annually, the statements help teachers get to know the children in their class and plan strategies to support each child’s learning and development.
How the TLDS works
Each student’s TLDS summarises their abilities as they start school and identify their individual learning needs.
The statements share information about student development and wellbeing between early childhood services, schools, and Out of School Home Care services (where applicable).
Teachers can use the TLDS to review a student’s progress by comparing their current capabilities against those recorded before the start of school.
This gives teachers a way to evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs in place and insight into areas they can focus on.
Accessing the TLDS
Prep teachers who want to access the statements should speak to their principal or Insight school administrator to ensure each statement has been linked to a student profile on the Insight Assessment Platform (Insight).

Once the statement has been linked, teachers can access their students’ TLDS through the student profile on Insight.
