Help prepare your students for bushfire season

Download lesson plans to support learning about, preparing for, responding to and recovering from bushfires.

A range of classroom resources are now available to support bushfire education, so teachers can include them in lesson planning ahead of bushfire season.

The sequenced lesson plans explore the themes of learning about, preparing for, responding to and recovering from bushfires. You can access them through the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) bushfire education webpages.

Eltham North Primary School teacher Claire Amsellem said the resources have helped students to understand bushfires.

'I found the VCAA's resources really useful to integrate into our existing units, to teach my class about bushfires,' Claire said.

The VCAA developed the resources to support Foundation to Level 10 teachers to prepare all young Australians for the challenges of living in a country that regularly experiences bushfires.

Professional learning webinar on bushfire education

Recently, the VCAA held a professional learning webinar for teachers, which was a joint presentation with the Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria.

Watch a recording of the session for an introduction to the VCAA's bushfire education webpages and the resources available, to learn how they can help you to design and deliver a program about bushfires.
