Minister for Education, the Honourable James Merlino MP, has opened the new Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership's purpose-designed facility and launched the inaugural Teaching Excellence Program.

First built in 1858, the historic site at 41 St Andrews Place in East Melbourne has now been fitted out with technology and facilities to deliver high-quality professional learning to exceptional Victorian teachers and school leaders.

The Australian-first Teaching Excellence Program harnesses expertise and learnings from all 3 Victorian education sectors – government, Catholic and independent – to further enhance the skills of exceptional teachers across the state.

Education experts from the government, Catholic and independent sectors attended two launch events, along with several members of the inaugural Academy Board, 2022 Teaching Excellence Program participants and Master Teachers.

Dr Marcia Devlin, Chief Executive Officer of the Academy, believes the Teaching Excellence Program marks the beginning of a new and more collaborative era in Victorian education.

Dr Devlin said she had high expectations of the Academy's work.

We look forward to supporting exceptional educators across sectors and across the state as they focus on student learning, growth and development, and on the wellbeing of children and young people in their classrooms,' Dr Devlin said.
