Showcase students' STEAM projects at Monash Maker Faire

Submit an online expression of interest for the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics festival.

The exciting Monash Maker Faire is inviting schools from across Victoria to submit an expression of interest to showcase students' STEAM innovations at the event.

The faire on Sunday 4 December 2022, at Monash University's Clayton campus, is the only branded community maker faire in the southern hemisphere being held in 2022. It is tipped to attract up to 100 makers and 7,000 people from across Victoria.

Monash Tech School, the City of Monash and Monash University are delivering the event and seeking expressions of interest from Victorian schools. They are hoping to feature:

  • 20 tertiary student team exhibits
  • 40 primary and secondary school exhibits
  • 50 community maker exhibits.

If you'd like to exhibit, submit an expression of interest (use the password: inourclassroom) by Wednesday 2 November 2022.

What is a maker faire?

Maker faires are extraordinary 'show-and-tells'. Worldwide, these faires are renowned as festivals of innovation, creativity and resourcefulness that appeal to teachers, families and students of all ages.

Part science fair and part tech expo, maker faires showcase technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food, sustainability, the making of fun and the growing of new concepts.

The 2019 Monash Mini Maker Faire was a huge success. Exhibitors and attendees alike were full of praise, noting what a great learning opportunity and fun day out the event proved to be.

'It was a fabulous day!' one parent said.

'My 4-year-old loved the battle bots and electronic snakes and ladders, and my 8-year-old loved the spheros (programmable robots), coding and making a hammer light up with battery and electrical tape.'

More fun is no doubt in store for the 2022 event, as it makes its triumphant return to our calendar.
