As part of a new initiative to promote career pathways open to students through vocational and applied learning, teachers can book a VET Champion to speak at their school.
VET Champions are available to speak to students about their careers and experiences with vocational education and training (VET).
This is especially powerful for students in years 7 to 10, as they make decisions about subjects and career pathways. The initiative promotes authentic stories of how people from diverse backgrounds and cultures across Victoria have found a career they love.
So far, five VET Champions have been announced and profiled:
- Felicity Barnett, a head chef
- Kane Williams, an associate director
- Liaqat Ahmadi, a student attraction officer
- Kelly Shotton, an electrical apprentice
- Ashley Beeby, a heavy vehicle diesel mechanic.
Book a VET Champion to speak at your school
Schools can book VET Champions to take part in careers information sessions, school assemblies and other activities. VET Champions are available at no cost to schools.

Reforming vocational and applied learning for secondary students — have your say
Critical reforms to vocational and applied learning are underway in response to the Firth review into vocational and applied learning pathways in senior secondary schooling.
We are working closely with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, stakeholders and the community to develop an improved senior secondary experience.
This includes moving to an integrated senior secondary certificate, with vocational education embedded in the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), and development of a new foundation pathways certificate.
These changes will ensure senior secondary education is closely linked to the needs of the modern economy, setting students on a path to a dynamic career and a great life.
