Imagine retracing the geological time line of Australia's largest known marsupial that became extinct more than 40,000 years ago, or identifying wetland plants using sophisticated DNA extraction tools, immersing yourself in the microscopic world of plants and animals - or even investigating complex climate change issues.
These programs are just a tiny taste of the exciting discoveries and hands-on environmental learning experiences that await school students at Ecolinc, Bacchus Marsh’s Science and Technology Innovations Centre.
About the Centre
Ecolinc conducts sustainable environmental workshops for the community using the Ecolinc wetland and the ecologically sustainable design (ESD) principles of the Centre as demonstration models. It also develops and disseminates educational literature relating to sustainable environments and offers educational tours of the Centre featuring the wetland and ESD principles.
Programs
Ecolinc delivers onsite, online, outreach, fieldwork and professional development programs. The programs cater for Prep–Year 12 students, aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and VCE Study Designs in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics. VCE sessions can be undertaken as School Assessed Coursework (SACs).
Students participate in highly engaging learning activities and have the opportunity to use a range of digital technologies and sophisticated laboratory equipment.
Outreach
Outreach programs can be delivered by an Ecolinc education officer either before or following a visit to the Centre, or as a stand-alone program. All resources, equipment and technologies are supplied.
Outreach and online programs complement those provided onsite.
Online
Online programs are designed for Years 5–8 students and consist of learning activities that can be completed individually or as a unit. A range of teacher resources are also available on the Ecolinc website.
Teacher professional learning and support
Educational tours that include the wetland are available, along with professional development programs relating to environmental sustainability for primary and secondary teachers.
